Frequently Asked Questions
Distance Reiki Sessions
What is reiki?
Reiki is a healing modality using universal energy, or chi. This energy is ever present for all of us, and we can use reiki energy to help us balance our own energy and bodies. Reiki practitioners have learned how to channel this energy and amplify it. In this session, we will be channeling energy so that you can heal yourself. We do this using visualization and intention. Your body knows what to do with the energy and it will go where it is needed, even if we are not in the same place.
How does a distance reiki session work?
Unless you opt for a text exchange before and/or after the session, distance reiki can be contactless. Just before the appointment, you find a quiet place to relax and set your intention for the session, and we send the reiki to you from where we are, using the methods we’ve learned. If you find this hard to imagine, you might consider other ways energy travels invisibly and without contact, such as a wifi connection or radio waves. If we set our radio to the right frequency, we can establish a connection, and with reiki, we set the intention to give and receive healing.
Though you are not likely to experience a transportive change in your 30-minute session, reiki is a subtle force. The shifting energy works gradually, and you may notice over the following days or weeks that your attitude about something has shifted slightly, or your perspective is beginning to change, or a new idea or instinct crops up to solve an old problem. This is reiki at work, powered by your own intentions.
What if I don’t know what intention to set?
If you have clear goals for yourself, those work perfectly as intentions. Try to frame them as positive things you want, as opposed to negative things you don’t want or don’t like. For example, instead of “I don’t want to feel stressed out all the time,” you might try “I want to feel calm and peaceful, and to be able to address challenges with balance.”
If you are unsure where to start, here’s a suggestion: I’m ready for gentle change and I would like reiki energy to help me on my path to my highest good.
What do I do during a distance reiki session?
A few minutes before your appointment time, find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed.
You can play relaxing music if it helps, but we suggest you use a meditation playlist or something without lyrics.
If you have provided a phone number, we will text you to let you know we are beginning the session. If you haven’t, we will begin the session at the appointed time without making contact.
Remember to silence nearby devices so you are not interrupted.
Sit in a comfortable chair or lie down.
In your mind, out loud, or on paper, set your intention for the healing session. What do you hope reiki will do for you? What positive changes do you want to see and feel in your life?
Relax!
When the session is over, drink a large, cool glass of water.
If you asked for a brief touch-base after the session, we will reach out when we have finished.
We welcome any feedback, insights, or reflections you have to share about your experience.
What will I feel during a distance reiki session?
The most common effect of reiki is relaxation. You may also feel some of the following sensations, or you may not feel anything. Don’t worry, reiki is working either way.
Sensations of hot or cold
Seeing colors or light
Involuntary movements, like twitching
Stomach rumbling
Gentle pressure
Mental images
Tingling in limbs
Heavy limbs
Falling asleep
Emotional response*
*A note about emotional responses to reiki: because reiki works for your highest good, the path you take to heal yourself may require you to pass through and heal some difficult feelings. If you feel poorly--either physically or mentally--during or after a reiki session, trust that these difficulties are part of your own healing process. Reiki always works for your highest good. And don’t hesitate to reach out if you would like to discuss anything with us.
What does the practitioner do during a distance reiki session?
While you are relaxing, we will be channeling reiki energy to you, one chakra at a time, using visualization and intention. We will set an intention that the reiki energy be used for your highest good, and we trust that your body will know what to do with it.
As we work, we observe, and after the session, we write notes about our observations. If you would like us to share the session notes with you, select that option in the appointment form. You might find the session notes help bring some perspective to your healing path.
What is a dual healing session?
When you book an appointment with Twin Flames, you are booking a session with two practitioners. At the time of your appointment, we will both be sending you reiki. We share a strong intuitive connection, and we have found that this unique approach to distance healing provides our clients with a more powerful and balanced healing session than if we worked alone. When you receive your session notes, they will include observations from both of us.
What are chakras?
Chakra means “spinning wheel of energy” or “energy center” in Sanskrit. Each of these centers is associated with specific organs, endocrines, issues, emotions, colors, and elements. The lower three chakras call us to action, help to ground us, and are usually concerned with the material world. The higher three chakras are associated with self-reflection and the spiritual aspects of life. The central heart chakra is related to love and healing, and can help to balance the other chakras. Balancing these centers can have a physical, emotional, and spiritual effect on an individual.
At certain times we will all display symptoms of one or more chakras being out of balance. This usually means there are beliefs, energy, or emotions tied to the concepts associated with that chakra that are not serving you. Reiki treatments along with clear intention (intention to heal and to see things in a new light) can help you start to release that storage that may be impacting the chakra and move to balance.
What is the relationship between reiki and religion?
Reiki is universal energy and not a religion. It works alongside any and all practiced religions and also with an absence of religious beliefs. All reiki requires of you is that you have an intent to heal yourself and that you are open to gentle, positive change.
